The Happiness Project – Week Forty-Five

There’s been a lot of press lately (as there should be) about Hurricane Sandy.  I watched coverage of when it made land and watched in complete awe as it just washed over so much!  It made me so sad for those who lost so much and made me so thankful to be home in my warm house with power.  When I started this happiness project in January, I wanted to keep my cost as close to $100 as possible, as I wanted to stretch my thinking to do more things that cost little or nothing.  It’s week 45 and I’m under $100, but not for long.
That said, I also never set out to change the world.  Instead I wanted to see what one person could do.

Helping out the Red Cross is very easy.  To quickly donate $10 for Hurricane Sandy, you can text “redcross” to 90999.  It’s fast.  It’s easy.  You could visit the American Red Cross website and choose how much to donate there.  While on their website, you can read about other ways you could give (donate blood, organize a donation drive, etc.).  I feel good donating to the Red Cross, because I know my money is actually going to help someone and not to pay overhead costs.  They state that $0.91 from every $1.00 goes directly to disaster relief.  My donation won’t go far, but if I’m not the only one, it makes a difference.  What can you do?

Total This Week: $5.00
Total This Year:  $101.50
